Is your business protected?

For business owners, protecting your business and making sure that your employees are completely understanding of your expectations and procedures is key to success. While 90 percent of executives understand the importance of employee engagement, fewer than 50 percent understand how to address this issue. (Conference Board, cited by Deloitte University Press, January 2015). This is a problem -- as employees become increasingly dissatisfied with their jobs, businesses can suffer and even be at risk for lawsuits or other legal actions. Eliminating any of the common issues in connection to Human Resources is the first step to complete protection.

There are many things that the Human Resources Department or person is in charge of, and must stay on top of:

1. Making sure that your business is in compliance with local, state and federal laws. Employment and business laws can change frequently, and it is up to the HR department to make sure that the business is ALWAYS in compliance as to avoid any legal issues.

2. Communication with both business administrators and employees is one of the most important tasks of any HR department or person. Communicating any changes to employees is essential to creating a trusting work environment, because when employees are able to understand the how, why, when and where of various changes, they will be more likely to trust the business and have higher levels of positive self-efficacy.

Second, it is extremely important for employees of any business to know what is expected of them. An employee handbook or manual outlines the legal obligations of the employer and the rights of the employee, as well as generally outlining the expectations and policy/procedure of the company. With an employee handbook, employees and administrators have clarity on expectations so that later, if problems arise, the solution simply comes from the handbook, rather than taking the legal route.

Protecting your business, as well as your employees, is incredibly important today. Though it is smart to take these steps in order to achieve maximum protection and understanding between owners and employees.
